Lamination

Our equipment permits us to laminate up to three different materials simultaneously, using solvent-free or solvent-based adhesives. The product determines which film/material and adhesives can be used.

Our equipment is able to laminate up to 125 million m2 of film.

Lamination process

Two films are laminated (bonded together) with solvent-free adhesives (2-component systems). To liquefy the adhesive and the hardener, both components must be heated to about 70°C prior to lamination. When the adhesive is liquefied, it can be mixed and applied to the printed film. Since adhesives bond more firmly with solvents, the laminated film can also be used for aggressive products that need to be retorted or pasteurized. In the case of solvent-containing adhesives, the solvent must be removed from the film after the lamination process.

Post-lamination treatment

After lamination, the master roll (finished laminate) is stored for 3 to 15 days. During this curing period, the adhesive solidifies.

Treatment of retorted films after lamination

After lamination, retorted films must be conditioned in an oven at about 50°C for 2 to 7 days to allow the adhesive to cure. After the curing period, the master rolls are stored for another 2 to 3 days outside the oven, after which they can be slitted and converted.
