Side-sealed pouch with zipper for a pharma application
Testline Clinical Diagnostics Ltd commissioned Wipf AG to produce a high-barrier pouch for microtiter plates. Microtiter plates are used for many different microbiological procedures. Typical applications include cell cultivation or screening of technical bioreactions. For such microtiter plates, Wipf AG developed a side-sealed pouch made with our pharmedX® laminate that was designed explicitly for pharmaceutical applications. The excellent barrier functionality of this laminate assures optimal protection against the ingress of moisture and light. With these properties, the laminate optimally preserves the product and extends its shelf life. In addition to these assets, the side-sealed pouch is user-friendly: it has starter notches and double laser perforation for easy opening without utensils. Thanks to these convenience features, the pouch can be opened very easily and hygienically. After they have been used, the pouches are reclosed with the integrated zipper and stored at low temperatures.
Tight, hygienically flawless packaging
Leveraging more than 20 years of clinical experience, Aesculap – a division of B. Braun Melsungen AG – presented its Histoacryl® product in over 600 clinical publications worldwide. As an alternative to traditional sutures, the Histoacryl® tissue adhesive provides extremely simple, dependable, and fast wound closure.
The sterile polymer ampoule with a twist-off tip is packaged in a retortable side-sealed pouch with a barrier layer consisting of our pharmedX® laminate that was specially developed for pharmaceutical applications. The gravure-printed special film thoroughly protects the product against oxidation, dessication, and degradation of the active constituents. Additionally, we can guarantee a very high level of product integrity by complying with GMP standards throughout all processes, by implementing BRC/IOP hygiene standards, and by defining strict integrated environmental and occupational health and safety management practices.To guarantee simple handling by the user, we endowed the single-ampoule package with the easy-peel function. Thanks to this convenience feature, the pouch can be opened very easily and hygienically. This is an important advantage in everyday surgery situations.
Wipf laminates assure high-barrier properties
For several years now, Wipf AG has been using an unprinted laminate for NICORETTE® inhalers as a seal for the Barex polymer cartridges. The innovative nicotine replacement therapy is made by McNeil AB, the second-largest employer in Helsingborg, Sweden. The NICORETTE® inhaler consists of a mouthpiece and interchangeable Barex polymer cartridges that contain medicinal nicotine. A certain amount of nicotine is evaporated “cold” from the cartridge and absorbed by the mucous membranes in the mouth and throat when the user inhales through the mouthpiece.The selected laminate offers extremely high barrier properties for gases such as oxygen and nitrogen as well as very good chemical resistance against many other substances. The barrier against aromas, fragrances, natural, and volatile constituents is so outstanding that the interaction between the packaging and the content ranges from negligible to zero.
